Steps-to-Distance Calculator

Estimate walking distance from a step count and your own measured average step length.

What this answers:

  • How far did I walk if I took a certain number of steps, given my own step length?
  • How does step count convert to miles and metres?

There is no universal "2,000 steps per mile" rule — step length varies by person. For an accurate result, measure your own average step length (e.g. walk 10 steps, measure the distance, divide by 10) rather than guessing.

How it's calculated

distance (m) = steps × step length (m)   miles = distance (m) / 1609.344

Worked example

10,000 steps at a 0.75 m step length: 10,000 × 0.75 = 7,500 m = 4.66 miles.
